Humane Conversation on The Future of AI Regulation in the EU Tuesday, 3 March 2026, from 15:00 to 16:00, online

Join us on the 3rd of March 2026 from 15:00 to 16:00 for the next Humane Conversation with prof. dr. Natali Helberger and prof. dr. Hannah Ruschemeier!

In November of 2025, the European Commission published its proposal for a Digital Omnibus Regulation. This proposed piece of legislation includes a set of revisions to its digital rulebook, including the GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, the AI Act, the Data Act, the P2B regulation, cybersecurity regulation, etc. These revisions include changes to core definitions, supervision powers, and even wholly scraps the P2B regulation. The Commission argues that this will help streamline and ‘rationalize’ AI governance.

Arguably, after the Draghi report, EU politicians have started to evermore advocate for Europe to become more competitive on the global AI market. But will the Digital Omnibus really achieve this? Or will it (also) harm the rights of Union citizens in a society that is increasingly being impacted by AI? Can the EU then still call itself a global frontrunner when it comes to AI regulation? We will discuss these questions with two discussants: prof. dr. Natali Helberger (University of Amsterdam) and prof. dr. Hannah Ruschemeier (University of Osnabrück).
