Legal Protection International hosted it’s 30th annual international legal protection congress on 15 & 16 October. This congress raises the question whether the legal sector, in particular the in-house lawyers of legal protection insurers – “The Legal Protection Lawyer” – are fit for the future.
On the first day, 15 October 2020, dr. Iris van Domselaar delivered a keynote, discussing: ‘Digitalization and the Ethics of (inhouse) lawyering: Three Challenges’. On the basis of a legal ethical perspective she identified three challenges that individual (inhouse) lawyers face due to the digitalization of their practice. The first challenge is that of increasing dependence on legal tech (companies), the second challenge is that of role-confusion, and the third challenge is that of datafication of the client.
